Waxed Chain

We decided to buy new chains for our bikes and decided to wax them. We wanted to make our chains last longer and create less wear on the system overall. The way the waxing works is by when applying heating the chain so the molten wax mixture penetrated the links, pins and barrels lubricating the complete chain.

To wax the chains we purchased 500g of paraffin wax and 50g of fine grade Teflon powder.

First step - Soak chain in petrol for 24hrs to remove manufactuers lubricant. Save used petrol in a new container.

Second step - Give the chains a quick wash in acetone. Save used acetone in new container

Third step - Fully melt the wax and Teflon powder in a stainless steel pan.

Fourth step - Emerse the chain fully under the mixture.

Fifth step - Hang the chain to drip free of exess wax back into the mixture.

Sixth step - Once cool the chain is ready to fit.
