Sugar Mash

If your looking to make a simple neutral spirit like vodka with your reflux or column still a sugar wash is the recommended wash to use.

This is because it’s simple to make and provides great results.

There’s no point in paying more money for grains and malts not to mention the extra work involved with grain mashes if your
re-flux still is going to strip all the flavours from your final product.

 

Ingredients

7 - 9 kg White Sugar 1 Pack Turbo Yeast Yeast Nutrients Clearing Agent
(Optional)

Materials

30L Fermenter Stirring Spoon Thermometer

 

Instructions

  1. Clean and sterilize fermenter
  2. Add 8 – 10 L of hot water into the fermenter
  3. Measure out sugar and slowly add to fermenter while stirring
  4. Once sugar is dissolved top up fermenter with cool water to bring temperature to between 22–30ºC all yeast is different
  5. Add nutrients and yeast and let stand for 1 hour
  6. After 1 hour stir in yeast and let stand for 24 hours
  7. After 24 hours stir well to aerate sugar wash ( This aeration allows for increased yeast reproduction as yeast will reproduce until there is no more oxygen at this point they will begin to create alcohol).
  8. Fermentation will complete within 4 -21 days. Check fermentation by either measuring specific gravity, or by tasting for left over sugars.
